Mt Tabor Community Christian Church was originally established in 1836 as “Indian Creek Sabbath School.” The first church was located on lower Mt. Tabor Road near the current cemetery until the structure burnt some twenty years later. Church members later purchased land at the top of Mt. Tabor and started construction on a new building in 1859. The second church was completed after the Civil War in 1865, and the church was given the new name of “Mt. Tabor Church” in 1872. This same sanctuary stood until 1997 when, due to structural issues, it was replaced by the current sanctuary. Since 1955, the church has been known as “ Mt. Tabor Community Christian Church” and operates as an independent, non-denominational church.
